“Suspicious” Woman At Bridge Found To Be In Possession Of Meth
After receiving a call regarding a suspicious-acting woman at a bridge in the Ethridge area deputies discovered that she was in possession of methamphetamine.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies were dispatched to a bridge located at 97 Brier Hill Road at 7:22 Sunday evening.
A concerned citizen had reported seeing a woman who appeared to be hiding from passersby. The caller also reported that it appeared that the woman was stirring something.
Deputies report that when they arrived they made contact with thirty-three year old Wendy Marie Fitzgerald. They said that she was inside a dark colored Honda Accord and appeared to be “extremely nervous.”
Fitzgerald told deputies that she was on probation but avoided telling them the charges associated with her probation. They noticed several spent shotgun shells in the rear of the car and, to ensure officer safety, requested that she exit the vehicle and empty her pockets.
They note that as she was doing so she did, “Exhibit behavior commonly associated with methamphetamine usage.”
Fitzgerald gave consent for deputies to search her vehicle. They report finding a make-up bag in the front passenger seat that was wrapped tightly with several rubber bands. Inside, they found three small baggies containing an off-white crystalline powder.
Deputies note that Fitzgerald gave contradictory statements about the contraband. At different times she told them that she “Was holding it for a friend,” “Didn’t know that it was in there,” and, “Forgot that was in there.”
Fitzgerald was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked under charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Bond was set at $20,000.
Fitzgerald is required to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on October 21, 2014.
