Lawrence County Government Awarded $525,000 Water Line Grant

Lawrence County Government has been awarded a $525,000 community development block grant from the State of Tennessee to extend water lines to citizens who lack clean and reliable sources of water in their homes.

The grant will extend water lines to Jonestown, Joe Williams, Danley, Wolfe, Sunnybrook Creek, and Rigling roads throughout the county.

County Executive T.R. Williams said he is grateful for Lawrence County being awarded the grant. "Quality of life issues remain the number one obstacle for our county going forward.

This grant will not only enhance our county's quality of life, but make us more competitive moving into the future."

"I want to thank all of my past and current colleagues for all their hard work on this grant and for working to see that improving our citizens' quality of life is a top priority," said County Commissioner Chris Jackson who is a member of the county's Utilities Committee. "In the years to come, our board of commissioners will remain proactive in seeking out areas that need water in Lawrence County and in finding ways to fund water line extensions to those areas. In the year 2014, every citizen deserves access to clean and reliable water," he added.

Under the grant program the county will receive $525,000 in funding. The State requires a 12% local match, however, due to Lawrence County being a 3 Star Community, the local match will only be $45,653.
