Paint The Town With Paw Prints

Press release

The Lawrence County Animal Welfare League would like to say a great big thank you to several local businesses and citizens.

On August 31st, Walgreens hosted our kick-off for the year round fundraiser, "Paint the Town with Paw Prints."

The event was a great success with Chris Smith of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department keepting the pavement and pools cool for the dogs and the kids (along with this adult) occupied with lots of fire hose fun.

Shandi Fleeman provided some sweet treats for visitors and Julie Culp created some beautiful doggie clothes as well as providing professional pet photography.

Andrea Bryant and Tonya Ivie of Van Vickle Insurance created the paw prints and kept them organized while Marion Yokley provided free dog nail trimmings.

Ben Luna of WLX was on hand for radio coverage which was a great asset.   A great time was had by all and nearly $1,000 was raised that went directly towards the dog's medical care at Shoal Creek Animal Hospital.

By the end of the day, Walgreens was painted with paw prints bearing the names of donors.  We would also like to thank Johnny and Doris Lyles and Barbara Smith of Remax for their large personal donations.

This event could not have happened without the support of Walgreens for allowing us to use their facility as well as providing pet photo discounts and free doggy treats and Van Vickle Insurance.

We are so thankful to the Lawrenceburg Fire Department because keeping the animals cool was the top priority of the day.

While we had considered putting the walls of our tents up and plugging in an air conditioner, humans and dogs alike were kept cool and comfortable throughout the day.  Several of our rescue dogs were able to show off their weight gain and new healthy, happy personalities.

While we had a great day, several citizens were sent to our adoption event with animals in need of placement.

We hope no one was offended but only healthy and fully vetted animals are allowed at our adoption events as it is of upmost importance that we send out healthy animals that won't infect other animals and not have sick or parasite ridden animals around our adoptable pets.

We place them on a two week quarantine as it is common to pull dogs who are carrying parvo or other diseases, particularly from the pound.

By ensuring all the animals we adopt out are healthy we are doing what is best for the animals and their adopters as well as keeping the parking lot clean so shoppers don't take home disease to their pets.

Paint the Town with Paw Prints will continue at the Pet Palace and Sears.  The support of Lawrence county businesses has become an important part of saving animals we are forever grateful.

Adoption information can be found by calling 615-430-9501 and donations can be made directly to our account at Shoal Creek Animal Hospital by stopping by or calling 931-762-7294.

Thank you Lawrence county citizens for your continued support and assistance.

Sincerely,
Lawrence County Animal Welfare League
Jessica Yokley, President
