Credit Cards Used For Unauthorized Purchases

Authorities were asked to investigate Tuesday after a local woman discovered that several unauthorized purchases had been made in the Nashville area using information from her credit cards.

The victim, a resident of Waynesboro Highway, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department that more than $500 worth of merchandise had been charged to her credit accounts without her knowledge or permission.

Purchases were reported at Home Depot, Walmart and Target on one card. The other card, she said, had been used to purchase a prepaid cell phone and to pay a bill at Charter Communications.

She said she is uncertain of the total amount charged on the second card because she has not yet been able to obtain all of the needed information.

The victim was uncertain how someone had obtained her credit card information.

Investigation in the matter is currently on-going through the department's Criminal Investigation Division.
