Victim Reports Theft From Late Mother's Estate

A Lewisburg man filed a complaint with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department on Saturday, indicating that he had discovered that the home of his late mother had been burglarized.

The victim, age 43, told sheriff's deputies that he had not been to the Gimlet Road property in about one month.

Deputies found that the front door had been pried open. Several items were reportedly missing from inside, including an antique Hosier cabinet, around 75 woven baskets, and other antiques.

In addition, he said the wheels and tires had been stolen off of a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac, and that items had been stolen from barns on the property, as well.

The victim estimated the value of the items at $1,100. He told deputies that he would take a more thorough inventory in coming days.

Deputies noted that there were tire tracks in the uncut grass that appeared to have been made fairly recently.

Investigation in the matter is continuing at the current time.
