ARRA Funds Summer Youth Program
More than 781 disadvantaged youth, ages 14 to 24, from the eight counties of the South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance are participating in Hire YOUth!.
The summer youth program is funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
“Work experience is the link between school and career, and this program gives employers an opportunity to provide much needed on-the-job mentoring,” said Jan McKeel, South Central TN Workforce Alliance executive director.
“We hope that many of the youth will be hired on permanently with their mentoring employer when the program concludes September 30.” Employers do not pay workers in the program.
ARRA funds provide the $7.25 per hour which youth receive directly from their local Career Center office. Currently, 75 from Lawrence County are employed through the program.
