Transient Says He Stole Beer To “Drink With Buddies”

A transient from Florida was arrested during the weekend after he allegedly stole beer from a Lawrenceburg business because, “He had no money and wanted to drink with his buddies.”

Lawrenceburg Police officers were called to Dollar General Store on North Military Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Members of management reported that a man with a Mohawk haircut had stolen a case of Natural Lite Beer valued at $16.90, then fled from the premises.

A clerk at the store recognized the man and told officers that he had been staying at a home on Stephens Street. After reviewing security footage officers report going to the address where they made contact with Joshua Edward Pietrantoni, age 22.

They report that Pietrantoni agreed to go back to the store where a positive identification was made. Because he was planning to go back to Florida on the 21st, Pietrantoni was arrested rather than issued a citation.

He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under one count of theft of merchandise.

Officers note that they Pietrantoni had run out of his shoes when fleeing the store. The shoes were recovered at the scene. Pietrantoni told them that he had discarded the remainder of his clothing behind a nearby business.

Pietrantoni is scheduled to answer the theft charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 5, 2014.
