Persons seen prowling about parking lot before vehicle burglaries
Lawrenceburg Now
Twice during the weekend, victims of vehicle burglaries reported seeing persons prowling about in the parking lot of a gym before they went inside.
Lawrenceburg Police officers were first called to the Windsor Avenue gym at 2:14 Sunday morning when a twenty year old victim reported someone had broken into his 2015 Toyota. He told officers that before he entered the gym at around 11:45 p.m. he had noticed a female and a male subject walking around in the parking lot.
He said that he went inside and worked out. When he exited at around 2:00 a.m. he discovered that his passenger side window had been broken. The center console and glove box had been searched and left open. Officers report that a large concrete paver stone used to break the window was still lying in the passenger seat.
Missing from the truck were the victim’s wallet, which had been left lying on the passenger seat, and a pair of prescription Oakley Sunglasses. Damages and loss were said to total $1,350.
Officers were summoned to the gym a second time at around 7:30 p.m. At that time the victim reported that he had parked his 2008 Chevrolet next to the gym door. He said that while he was inside someone entered the vehicle and took a North Face backpack that contained his wallet with $45 in cash, iPad, Mac Book, and some medication. His loss was estimated to total $2,485.
The second victim’s passenger told officers that his wallet, containing $20 along with cards and his identification, had also been stolen.
In the second incident no damage was reported to the vehicle. The victims did report, however, seeing three female subjects walking around in front of the building when they entered the gym.
Presently, both cases remain under investigation. Anyone who has information related to the cases should contact the police department at 931-762-2276.
