Two Locals Fall Victim To Identity Theft

Investigations are being conducted after two residents reported Tuesday that their identities had been used to make fraudulent purchases.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department spoke with a Parish Street resident at around 2:15 who reported that he had been contacted regarding fraudulent charges to his credit card.

He told officers that he learned from his card company that his card information had been used to make five different transactions in Texas.

The charges included a purchase at Pizza Hut and a payment of a utility bill. He told officers that the only recent purchase he had made was for automotive parts from a company in Kansas. The card company issued a new card to the victim.

The second report was from a resident of Fall River Road. He told officers that he had checked his credit report through CreditKarma.com only to find that on May 27 someone had opened an account under his name at a Home Depot store in West Hills, California. He said the account had an outstanding balance of $780.

He told officers that he had already contacted the holder of the account, Citi Bank, and that the company would be opening an investigation into the matter, as well.
