Burglar Likely Stayed Inside Home That Was Burglarized

An Iron City resident who discovered that her home had been burglarized last week told authorities that she believed that the burglar had been staying inside her home.

The resident of Gibson Road said she had begun to move into the house and had many of her belongings stored there. She said she returned Thursday after about a week. When she entered, she said that she found dirty dishes in the sink that were not left by her.

While checking the home, the victim said she found that her washer and dryer, a window air conditioner, and three trail cameras were missing. She estimated her loss to be $2,100.

On Sunday the victim contacted deputies for a second time. She said that she had returned to the home that day to find cigarette butts lying about. She said the home smelled of fresh cigarette smoke. She said that it appeared that no other items had been stolen.

In both instances the victim reported she could find no sign of forced entry. The case is currently under investigation by detectives with the department's Criminal Investigation Division.
