Two Charged In Shoplifting Incident

Theft and other charges were issued against a couple of people found to have made off with more than $600 worth of merchandise from a Lawrenceburg business last week.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that the crime was discovered by members of the Loss Prevention department at Walmart. They reported that a man and woman left the store with a total of 70 different items without paying for them.

They reported to investigating officers that the female suspect, Tarah Leigh Blackwell, age 28, and Nicky Joe Johns, 33, had filled up a shopping cart and backpack with various items of merchandise. Johns reportedly left with the backpack. Blackwell pushed the cart out of the store before bringing it back inside.

Police officers report that a syringe was found in Blackwells purse. She told them that she and Johns were homeless and needed food. She said she did not know where he had gone, but that it was likely he had gone to his girlfriend's home.

Blackwell was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked under charges of theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing.

Warrants were issued for Johns on charges of theft and criminal trespassing. He was taken into custody and during processing .05 grams of marijuana was found on his person. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Both Blackwell and Johns were scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 4, 2014.
