Man injured in accidental shooting incident

Law enforcement officers were summoned to the emergency room at Southern Tennessee Regional Healthcare last weekend to investigate an accidental shooting incident that resulted in injury to a Ft. Campbell, Kentucky resident.

The victim, age twenty-seven, told Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies that he had been showing his Springfield 1911 pistol to his twenty-three year old nephew when the accident occurred. He said that when his nephew pulled back the slide, a round jammed. He said he handed the gun back to him and that when he cleared it and released the slide, the pistol fired one round which struck him in the right thigh.

X-rays showed that the round entered the front of the victim's leg in the mid-thigh, then travelled around the knee toward his foot. It came to rest between the shin bone and skin.

The shooting was ruled accidental in nature and the victim received the appropriate medical treatment for his injury.
