Parks & Recreation and Sheriff’s Departments team up for First Annual Summer Camp for Teens
Lawrenceburg Now
The Lawrenceburg Department of Parks & Recreation and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department have announced that they have joined forces to host their First Annual Summer Camp for Teens.
The three-day camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6 through Wednesday, June 8, at Rotary Park.
The camp will simulate actual law enforcement training with a classroom portion, physical activities, and scenario training. Once they have learned about various situations, the teens will participate in a role-play activity to help them further understand. Sheriff’s department officials explain, “This will give them an opportunity to experience situations that police officers face every day.”
Topics that will be covered include: introduction to law enforcement, K-9, crime scene investigation, physical fitness training, cyber safety, DUI and traffic stops, firearms operations, and criminal investigations.
The camp is open to teens ages 12 through 14 who are in good physical condition. In order to participate, students must commit to attending all three days (mandatory). It is offered at no cost, with sack lunches and snacks provided daily. Students will receive a T-shirt that they will be required to wear each day of camp, and comfortable athletic shoes are required. Also, students will be participating in swimming activities and will be required to take a swim test that will be administered by lifeguards.
To participate in the camp, or for more information, contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
By hosting the camp, sheriff’s department officials explain, “It is our hope that the teens will better understand law enforcement while learning good decision-making and leadership skills, and still enjoying some summer fun.”
