Pair Involved In Dispute Over Dog Ownership

Both parties involved were advised of how to proceed, should they wish to pursue further action in a dispute over dog ownership that was reported to authorities on Tuesday.

A deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a Beechwood Drive home shortly after 10:00 p.m. regarding an instance of trespassing.

He arrived to find that a forty-five year old local woman had come to the home in an attempt to regain possession of a dog.

The resident, age fifty-seven, told the deputy that the woman, “Came to her front door and demanded her dog back.”

The resident said that she had informed the woman that, “The dog was now property of the Animal Welfare League and that she needed to leave.” She said that the woman left, but had turned back long enough to make threats against she and her husband.

The deputy noted in his report that the woman had come to the sheriff’s department earlier, explaining that the she was the proper owner of the dog.

She told him that she could prove ownership through veterinarian records, but that since the office was closed she could not obtain them until the following morning.

In the end the deputy advised the woman about the process to legally retrieve her dog. He also informed the resident about the process she could go through, should she wish to prosecute on the trespassing charge.
