Air Evac Lifeteam, Wayne EMS and Lawrence EMS work together to save lives
Air Evac Lifeteam recently visited Wayne Medical Center to conduct a Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support Class (PHTLS) for approximately 11 employees.
The PHTLS course helps individuals develop skills needed to care for patients involved in traumatic injuries.
“The course was developed to assist EMS providers in dealing with critical patients and to help stabilize patients in shock, respiratory and cardiopulmonary failure. The class also helps EMS providers in understanding the injuries that could occur from the patient’s mechanisms of injury and what is the best course of action to deal with those critical injured patients,” said Air Evac Paramedic and course director Thomas Perkins. “Conducting this type of class helps ensure every responder at the scene of a traumatic emergency has the tools he or she needs to provide the best care possible for patients” said Air Evac Nurse Supervisor Lottie Warren.
Air Evac Lifeteam offers outreach education classes to hospitals and emergency services in the areas in which they serve.
“This is just one example of the way Air Evac Lifeteam partners with other health care agencies in the community to work together to provide quality medical care for our patients, and it is also an opportunity for us to give back to those agencies that have been supportive of our service” added Lottie.
Air Evac Lifeteam, an air ambulance service that provides emergency health care and rapid medical transport to rural communities throughout the central United States, routinely provides training for emergency service agencies in the areas they serve. The company currently operates over 80 mutually supported air medical bases across 14 states. The company has flown more than 135,000 patients who were in need of critical care since its founding, and has more than 740,000 members in support of its presence in their local communities.
