Resident Files Complaint Regarding Racial Slurs
A west Lawrence resident filed a complaint with local law enforcement officers on Wednesday, indicating that a driver had followed her home, then yelled racial slurs at her from the roadway.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Brush Creek Road home at around 5:15 p.m. to investigate.
The thirty year old victim told deputies that she was traveling home at around 5:00. She said as she negotiated a turn from Scenic Road to Brush Creek Road the driver of a burgundy Cadillac “slammed on the brakes,” placing her in fear. She told deputies that she quickly made her way to her home.
She said she had been there for two or three minutes when she noticed the same Cadillac approaching. She said the driver stopped on the roadway front of her home, opened the door, and began to yell racial slurs.
The victim’s cousin told deputies that although he had been inside the house when the incident occurred, he was able to hear the man’s degrading remarks. He said he looked out the window in time to see the motorist drive away.
Both the victim and her cousin said they were unfamiliar with the vehicle. They described it as having tinted windows and missing a hubcap.
The incident currently remains under investigation.
