Cows Stolen Off Of Leoma Property
Law enforcement officials are working to identify individuals who stole cows off of a Leoma property Sunday afternoon.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department made their way to the Mt Zion Road property to investigate at around 4:30 p.m. One of the victims reported that her brother-in-law had stopped by earlier to tell her that two cows were out and that she needed to check for damage to the fence. She told deputies that she drove to the property and immediately noticed that someone had closed the corral on both ends. She said that these were always left open.
The victim said that she conducted a headcount and discovered that two registered Black Angus cows were missing. According to the report, it appeared that the thief had backed up to the corral to take the cows. No damages were found.
The victims checked with neighbors concerning any suspicious activity in the vicinity. One neighbor said that he saw a white truck pulling a rusty cattle trailer pass his home at around 2:30 p.m., then pass back by a short time later.
The victims told deputies that there is no other place to turn around except at nearby Mount Zion church. Deputies hope to gain access to video surveillance footage from cameras at the church.
The victims said they would check for the cows at area stock barn sales in coming days. They estimated the value of both cows to total $3,200. Anyone who has information about the crime should contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
